Jonathan was thrilled to catch up with one of his former clients recently, ahead of the Carabao Cup Final between Newcastle United and Manchester United.
Premier League legend Andrew Cole starred for both clubs of course, scoring almost 150 goals for the two teams in total.
Jonathan advised Andrew during his playing days. Andrew was delighted to contribute the foreword to Jonathan’s book.
Jonathan said, “Andrew has followed the progress of Fortune and Fame closely. He was thrilled to receive a signed copy of the book from me when we met up recently in Hertfordshire.”
“Andrew particularly enjoyed the design of the book, especially Nathan Wyburn’s stunning artwork.”
Andrew was excited to learn about the worldwide reach of Fortune and Fame and delighted that a percentage of funds from sales would be donated to Velindre Cancer Centre in Cardiff.
Andrew is looking ahead to the big cup final and will be at Wembley to enjoy the clash between two of his former clubs. It is a great tribute to Andrew that he remains one of a handful of close confidants with whom Jonathan has chosen to stay connected.
BBC actress Jackie Lye who plays Joy Horville in the long-running radio series The Archers, is also a keen follower of the Fortune and Fame project and a lifelong Newcastle United supporter.
Jackie told us, “Like most Toon fans, I have many happy memories of watching Andrew Cole turn out in those famous black and white stripes. He also starred for the Red Devils too of course.”
“It’s wonderful to read about how Jon worked with stars such as Andrew, advising them on financial and agency matters to help safeguard their futures.”
“I also have fond memories of dear old Sir Bobby Robson of course, who was a patron of Jonathan’s organisation. He would have been 90 years old last week and occupies a special place in Jonathan’s book.”
“I’m sure that I will recall Sir Bobby and Andrew as I cheer the Magpies on from my seat at Wembley on Sunday. Ha’way the Lads!”
Andrew is one of several of Jon’s former clients who are associated with either of the two finalists.
Welsh international Craig Bellamy scored 28 goals for Newcastle United between 2001 and 2005. Rio Ferdinand won a host of medals for Manchester United. Both feature in Jonathan’s book.
Other players Jon advised include former Old Trafford star and boyhood Newcastle fan Michael Carrick, now in charge at Newcastle’s near neighbours Middlesbrough, and Ryan Shawcross, who made his way through the youth ranks at Manchester United before becoming part of the furniture at Stoke City. Former Magpie Lee Bowyer was also a client.
Other clients include former Red Devil Derek Brazil, who will be remembered fondly at Cardiff City and Andy Griffin, who appeared in the famous black and white stripes in the 1999 FA Cup Final – ironically against Manchester United!
The Carabao Cup Final takes place at Wembley Stadium on 26 February 2023.
